Transforming Lives
Jairos Jiri Association Pumula Children’s Home was established in 1979 to provide a safe and supportive environment for children with visual impairments. Located in Pumula East, Bulawayo (Stand Numbers 8993 and 8994), the Home operates from two houses that were thoughtfully joined together to form one nurturing residential facility.
With a capacity of 15 children, Pumula Children’s Home currently accommodates 18 primary school learners, supported by a dedicated team of four staff members. Most of the children come from outside Bulawayo and attend St Bernard’s Primary School, where specialized education for visually impaired learners is provided.
Admission into the Home is facilitated through radio awareness campaigns, referrals from the Department of Social Welfare, and our Community-Based Inclusive Development (CBID) department. Pumula Children’s Home is committed to providing care, stability, and access to quality education for visually impaired children during their primary school years.
Our mission is to promote and empower children with disabilities to gain confidence and independence so they can effectively contribute to socio-economic development.
